Miles per gallon!

The roadmaster is living another live right now. I’m hoping it’s not chopped up for parts somewhere, it is the car that saved us many times from strange situations. So, I’m still in Florida, enjoying the Florida Keys and Quintijn is back in NL, watching Formula 1 (something he really missed down here, there was no channel in the hotel that would broadcast F1).

I was just looking over some data from our trip (which i will be putting together later on for a big statistics post). For a while we measured our gas usage to check how economic our roadmaster was driving. So on a regular trip we measured

90 116.7 - 89 746.1 = 370.6

miles. We’ve used 18.059 gallons for that distance, so thats:

370.6 / 18.05900 = 20.5216236

miles per gallon. My little iphone converter (which does this much easier) tells me that this is equal to 11.46 litres/100km or 8.72 km per litre. Which is actually quite nice. For comparison a prius does 44 mpg (so that’s 2 times less than the Roadmaster, BUT the Roadmaster would fit 2 priusses in it’s trunk easily while being able to drive around about 6 people AND enjoying navigation, itrip music and everything else we got hooked up). A mazda 6 for example (not even a v8) does 19 miles to the gallon (pffff) and a volvo XC70 does 18 miles to the gallon! It is proven that our Roadmaster was actually a Green Machine™.

When i get back in NL i’ll edit the feature film and put up some more shots from the ‘on the road’-cam (we’ve only put online about 30% of the material, there’s still a lot of cool stuff to show you but first we’ll need a larger hard drive and my Mac Pro). In the moments between Q and i will compile all the trip data and put that online.
