I’m here, Quintijn is almost here (just spoke to him on the phone and he was on time for the plane leaving from Houston to Las Vegas). Tomorrow we’re going to buy our beautyful car (what should we put on the licenceplate?? In my 10 hour drive up here i was thinking “retedik”, “heeldik”, “roestbk”, “sloep01″, “wielen”, “holland” (that’s probably taken) and “benzine”). After that we’re going to check out Vegas and setup everything for our journey. My cam is here and Quintijn also has a cam. So video is covered, GPS tracking is covered (we might add a real live feed, i’ve been to an AT&T shop and it should be fixable), Twitter is doing it’s thing, Flickr already has a bunch of pictures and the weblog is doing well. We’re ready! Stay tuned for our first video report.

(Pictures were taken while driving).

Just received the picture below from Quintijn, he’s enroute. I’m going to pack my stuff (which is quite a lot; had to shop for extra clothes because my luggage didn’t arrive for quite a long time) get into my car and hit the road for a eight our ride to Las Vegas. Quintijn is airborne to Houston for a stop-over on his way to Las Vegas. It Has Begun!
I might have a problem… Tomorrow, when i will land in Houston, i only have 1 hour and 20 minutes to get to my next flight… Especially because i’m not familiair with intercontinental flighing and switching airplanes on one trip, this might be tricky…
I will set my foot on American ground on Terminal E, but my next flight will be taking of on Terminal C… But do i have to check in again somewhere? Or can i just walk through and is 1 hour and 20 minutes more than enough? Both of my flights are with Continental Airlines, by the way.
Has anyone ever been to Houston airport? How big is it?

Most of the travel agencies and other travel related institutes advise you to get an international drivers license. So, like a lot of other people, i got this piece of paper today.
In my opinion is a very over-estimated piece of paper. Because it is just an translation of my drivers licence. You might think it could be handy being in another country, but why?
On the frontpage of my my real dutch drivers license it says “Rijbewijs” but also “Permiso de Conduccion”, “Fuhrerschein”, “Ajokortti”, “Carta de Conducao” and “Driving License”.
The dutch government added multiple fraud prevention methods. That way it can not be copied because even a colour copy show the text “Kopie”. Some parts are plastified, which makes it also harder to fake it. My drivers license is already 8 years old and when i have to update it, in two years, i will get the new dutch drivers license. Like more countries the Netherlands change the old one for a new plastic card, like a credit card. Even harder to copy.
But because of the translation on our drivers license, what do we need the “International Driving License” for? Especially this one. It’s just a simple piece of paper, with some stamps, some written details about me, and my photo which is added with stampler. I think i can have 2 if i use a copy machine. There’s not one detail added which makes it a usefull document, in my honest opinion.
So, why? Is it just because of the ANWB (dutch tourist agency) has found an easy way to make extra money or is it because of the countries who really asks for this piece of paper?
Allthough it only costs € 13,–, to me it is a useless piece of paper.
Update from E: As i said before, i’ve never had to use an internation drivers licence. The only reason we got one this time was because we’re buying a car now, and ‘it was said’ by the same ANWB that for a transaction of that kind one needs a international drivers licence. Q, let return them and ask our money back if the licences are not needed, wadda ya say? ![]()
